There is something special about reaching for a favorite handmade mug.

Morning coffee, afternoon tea, or a quiet moment at the end of the day. These are ordinary rituals, but the objects we choose to use can make them more meaningful.

I make my ceramic mugs individually in my Grand Haven, Michigan studio. Their colors, lines, and textures come from things I notice along Lake Michigan—changing light, water movement, bird tracks, and marks left in the sand.

Many incorporate Lake Michigan beach sand into the glaze, bringing a little of the shoreline into something made to be held and used.

Each mug is one of a kind, with its own variations in form, color, and surface.

Finding that perfect handmade mug or cup is not always easy.  I spent more than 30 years developing, and still evolving,  this simple but very pleasing form.  My cups are dishwasher safe.
